Acclimatizing Your Pet Bird

First find out what conditions the bird has been kept in for the previous few months. Has the bird been kept inside or outside? If it has been housed inside, establish the temperature at which it has been kept. If it has been kept outside, find out whether the aviary was completely out in the open or whether it was well sheltered. Also ask whether it has been kept with other birds; it can be quite a shock for a bird to be suddenly introduced into a colony when it has been used to being by itself.
An important question to ask is how the bird has been fed. When you have discovered what the bird has been used to eating, try to feed it the same diet for the first couple of weeks, even if you do not approve of the diet. Then you can slowly introduce it to the foods you feel are more suitable. If you immediately feed the bird a completely different diet, this abrupt change
