1. Adopt a baby parrot
If you get a parrot while he is a baby, it will be easier to tame it. Old parrots can be stubborn and give you a hard time because they need more time and patience. In determining the age of the parrot take a look at the scales on its legs. A baby parrot has smoother scales than a mature bird. Also, the color of the body is a clue in determining the age. Mature birds have vivid colors while the young ones have much duller feather colors. Another aspect is the eye color. For example, a baby parrot has a dark gray iris while the old parrots have white or brown irises.
2. Get the right species for your personality
Before adopting a parrot be sure you know his personality characteristics. What does he like to do? Is he very active and makes loud noises that could upset my neighbors? What does he like to eat? Does the parrot have a strong beak that can damage my things? Does he need special accommodation that costs a lot? Am I able to afford this pet? Do I have the tine to dedicate to my pet?
If you know the answers to these questions and you still want to adopt a pet, than you are ready to become a bird owner.
3. Do a full check up on the parrot
